What is dry ice? Why is it so called?

Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. It is primarily used to cool food products at lower temperature than what water ice can provide.

It is called dry ice because, It goes from solid to gaseous state without going to liquid phase i.e., sublimation. Instead of solid to liquid to gas it goes through solid to gas.

Dry ice is the common name for solid carbon dioxide.(CO2).

It is callled so because it does not melt into a liquid when heated,instead,it directly changes to gas.Thus,this process is known as sublimation...
