Duns are longitudinal valleys that developed as a consequence of overlapping when the Indian plate and Eurasian plate collided. Particularly, they are formed between mountains in the Himalayan range the Shiwaliks and the lesser Himalayas. These channels are deposited with second-rate alluvium carried down by rivers of Himalaya.

For e.g: Dehra-dun, Kotili-dun, etc.
