Earth's atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.9% argon, and 0.03% carbon dioxide with very small percentages of other elements. Our atmosphere also contains water vapor. In addition, Earth's atmosphere contains traces of dust particles, pollen, plant grains and other solid particles.

Our earth is surrounded by a blanket of air. This layer of air is called the earth's atmosphere. It is held by earth's gravity. This layer extends upto about 10,000 km above the earth's surface. It is densest at the sea - level. As we go upwards it becomes thinner. The upper atmosphere is so thin that there is no enough air to breathe.
