Ecosystem is basically energy flow system. It regulates the natural processes in its own way.Food chain is one of them. All the living creatures are dependent directly or indirectly on sun. Some creates their own food known as primary producers(trees and grasses) and all other are dependent on them known as secondary or tertiary and so on.
suppose there is only one secondary consumer (like goat or cow) and all the other tertiary consumers are dependent on them. if the numbers of cow or goat decreases third level consumers will have nothing to eat.Sonumber of third level consumer will decrease and hence forth level also. And if there are variety of secondary consumers ,third and fourth level consumers will face no problem for their food .
Means, a diversified ecosystem is more elastic towards outside impact,Diversity makes ecosystem more sustainable ,increases its own life cycle period. A diversified ecosystem has more capability to handle temperature variation, natural calamity, man made problems etc.
This is the reason that,a cat,a dog or butterfly has the same importance as human being because all has its important role in food chain. And without a strong food chain system no one can survive including human beings.

HERE'S YOUR ANSWER
Ecosystems are communities of organisms and non-living matter that interact together. Each part of the ecosystem is important because ecosystems are interdependent. Damaged or imbalanced ecosystems can cause many problems.
All of the Earth's plants and animals rely on ecosystems to provide food and habitat. Ecosystems must maintain a delicate balance in order to stay vital. For example, a deer living in the meadow ecosystem needs water to drink, vegetation to eat and shrubs and bracken to sleep and hide in. If the deer population increases too much for their current ecosystem to provide these things, the extra deer will have to search for food and shelter elsewhere, encroaching on the habitats and ecosystems of other species.
