Heat like sound is a form of kinetic energy molecules at high temperature have more energy thus they can vibrate faster . since the molecules vibrate faster ,sound waves can travel more quickly . The speed of sound is also affected by other factor such as humidity and air pressure

jiyay: thanks for your help

Effect of temperature on speed of sound

  • The velocity of sound in the gas (c) is directly proportional to the square root of its absolute temperature (T).

                       c ∝ \sqrt{T}

  • If c₁ and c₂ are the velocities of sound in the gas at absolute temperatures T₁ and T₂, then

                       \frac{c_1}{c_2}  =  \sqrt{\frac{T_1}{T_2} }

  • The velocity of sound in air increases by 0.61 m/sec for 1°C rise in temperature.
