It is eleventh lunar day of each of the two lunar phases which occur in a Hindu calendar month - the Sukla Paksha and the Krishna Paksha.
In Hindu mythology it is said Ekadashi is said to be most auspicious day among the fifteen days of of krishna paksha or shukla paksha .
