During elastic collision the kinetic energy of the system of particles is conserved. Velocity of approach =, velocity of separation. If the bodies are of equal mass their velocity gets exchanged. To calculate the velocities after collision we can use the above equation and conservation of momentum to have two equation for two variables (final velocities of the two)
