➬ Election is an important thing in any democratic state or country because it gives right to the voters to elect their representatives or rulers. Through elections voters can choose who will form the government.

Election provide political equality. Types of elections are given below:-

• General Elections ➲ The Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabhas in the states are normally elected every five years . This type of election is known as General elections.

• By - Elections ➲ When a representative from constituency dies while in office, or if the office falls vacant because of reasons like resignation. Then new elections are held in that particular constituency. This type of election is called By - Election.

• Mid - Term Elections ➲ If the Lok Sabha or is dissolved before the expiry of its full term then elections are held to constitute a new house. This type is known as Mid - Term Elections.
