An electric bell is one of the most common application of an electromagnet.We can also say that bell is a device which has two switches connected on the electro magnet circuit.

Concept--
Actually the first switch outside the bell and the second switch of the bell is inside and consist of parts S and T. When the outer switch is pushed current flow through the electromagnet inside the well.This causes the Electromagnet to pull the string iron strip S. As soon as it moves towards the electromagnet its contact with the terminal T is lost.This breaks the circuit inside the bell.So the Electromagnet stops attracting the iron strip.Then the strip returns to the original position and makes contact with T.disclosures the circuit and the Electromagnet attracts the strip once again.This clever arrangement causes the strip to move back and forth many times a second.As the iron strip moves the hammer H is fixed to its strike gong G.This produce the sound of the bell.
