There are two definitions of electric current.
1. Flow of charges from one point to another is known as electric current. I=q/t where I is current, q is the charge that moved and t is the time it took to move.
2. Time varying electric flux generates current. I= (epsilon) d(phi)/dt where I is current, epsilon is electric permitivity of medium, phi is the electric flux and t is time. This current is also known as displacement current.
Ammeter is used to measure current in a circuit.
