Electric flux is the number of electric field lines or electric lines of force passing through a unit area in given time . It is a scalar quantity .

It can also be defined as rate of flow of electric field in a particular area is called electric flux .

Electric flux is the dot product of close integral of Electric field and surface area vector .

\tt \phi = \oint \vec{E} . d \vec{S}

According to Gauss' law , the electic flux passing through a closed surface is equal to \dfrac{1}{\epsilon_0} times the total charge enclosed inside the Gaussian surface .

Electric Flux over and area is equal to the total number of electric field lines crossing this area.

The Product of area and electric field at a point is called electric flux, but area and electric field should be perpendicular to each other .

The Dot Product of electric field and area vector is called flux .

The Electric flux over a closed area can be positive, negative, 0 depends on :-

  • Θ < 90°
  • Θ = 90°
  • Θ > 90°

\displaystyle  \phi_E =  \int\vec{E}. \vec{ds} =  \int Eds . \cos \theta

i. It is a scalar quantity.

ii. It's SI unit is N{m}^{2}

iii. Electric Flux Density → E = Θ/A
