In electromagnetism, electric flux is the measure of the electric field through a given surface, although an electric field in itself cannot flow. It is a way of describing the electric field strength at any distance from the charge causing the field.

The SI unit of electric flux is Volt Metres (Vm).

If the surface is placed perpendicular to the electric field then maximum electric lines of force will pass through the surface. Consequently maximum electric flux will pass through the surface. If the surface is placed parallel to the electric field then no electric lines of force will pass through the surface.
