Electromagnetic or magnetic induction is the production of an electromotive force across an electrical conductor in a changing magnetic field. Michael Faraday is generally credited with the discovery of induction in 1831, and James Clerk Maxwell mathematically described it as Faraday's law of induction.

Electric induction is the influence of an electric field source into itself (self induction) or into other field sources (mutual induction). There exist two types of mutual induction. One is the out of phase fielding when the direction of the two fields are divergent or concurrent and the other is the coherent or in phase fielding when the two fields are aligned in the same direction, over the same axis.
