Self-inductance of an inductor is referred to as the ‘inertia of electricity’. The reason it has been called as such is because just as how mass opposes the change in the motion (velocity) of an object, the inductance of an inductor opposes the change in current flowing through it.

Just as how an object’s kinetic energy can be expressed as 1/2mv^2, where m=mass of the object and v=velocity of the object, the magnetic energy stored in an inductor can be represented as 1/2LI^2, where L=Inductance of the inductor and I=current through it.
