Electricity is the flow of electrical power or charge. It is a secondary energy source which means that we get it from the conversion of other sources of energy, like coal, natural gas, oil, nuclear power and other natural sources, which are called primary sources.

For example electricity is used in our homes for lightning,operating fans etc.In industry, electricity is used to run various types of machines etc.

✎ There are two types of electric charges :-
- Positive charge
- Negative charge
1. positive charge :- By convention,the charge acquired by a glass rod rubbed with a silk cloth is called positive charge.
2. Negative charge :- By convention,the charge acquired by an ebonite rod rubbed with a woollen cloth is called negative charge.
☛ Properties of electric charges :-
- opposite charges or unlike charges attract each other for example a positive charge attracts a negative charge.
- similar charges or like charges repel each other for example a positive charge repels a positive charge and a negative charge repels a negative charge.
