Answer:
Electrolysis -
- Electrolysis is used in industry for the production of many metals and non-metals (e.g., aluminium, magnesium, chlorine, and fluorine).
- Electrolysis is commonly employed for coating one metal with another. The method of coating one metal with another using an electric current is called electroplating.
- Electrolytic refining:- Many metals, such as copper, zinc, tin, nickel, silver, gold etc. are refined by electrolysis.
- For example: In electrolytic refining of copper, the electrolyte is a solution of acidified copper sulphate. The anode is impure copper, whereas the cathode is a strip of pure copper.
Hope it helps! :)

Electrolysis is a process by which electrical energy is used to produce a chemical change. Perhaps the most familiar example of electrolysis is the decomposition (breakdown) of water into hydrogen and oxygen by means of an electric current. The same process can be used to decompose compounds other than water.
