Explanation:
When impure metals are refined in the presence of electricity then the process of refining is known as electrolytic refining.
During this process, impure metal acts as an anode whereas pure metal strip acts as a cathode. And a solution of the same metal salt which is soluble in a solution is taken as an electrolyte.
When electricity is passed then metal from impure metal anode gets deposited over the pure metal cathode and the impurity gets deposited at the bottom of solution as anode mud.
