Electroplating is a process of applying a layer of non-corrosive alloy on a normal metallic surface through the chemical process of electrolysis.
It is done for the following reasons -
- First of all, the electroplating provides our non corrosive layer of alloy on the metal surface. This increases the lifespan of the metal surface and prevents the unwanted surface corrosion.
- Secondly, the electroplating of shining alloys like chromium, gives the metallic surface a beautiful finish for the sake of good aesthetics of a finished product.
- The electroplating is also used to produce cheap costume jewellery with the extremely thin platings of gold and silver.
