• At First, what is Electroplating?

=> Electroplating is a natural phenomenon discovered by Michael Farraday (also by Joseph Henry) that if two metals kept (look in the attachment) in which the metal in anode (left side) release it's molecules through the help of electrolyte and the molecules from anode get deposited in the cathode (right side) and then a thin layer of anode gets deposited in the cathode.

(Note: In the attachment, Silver Nitrate is used as salt for the electrolyte.)

• What changes can be seen in found this?

1. You can see changes in the colour of the electrolyte used.
2. Gas bubbles can be seen rising up from the electrodes (anode and cathode).
3. Certain changes can be seen in cathode, i.e. in which the metal from anode is deposited)

• What are the advantages of this phenomenon?

1. This phenomenon helps to protect metallic objects from corrosion.
2. It also helps to minimize the costs of a substance. Examples can be seen in jewellery shops. They electroplate Noble metals on other metals, say gold on copper.
