Electroplating is the process of plating a metallic object with a thin layer of another metal, by the means of electroplating.
Eg. Copper items are electroplated with gold or silver to give shiny appearance.
Silver block and steel spoon are electrodes in a silver nitrate solution.
When current flows, silver from the block of silver travels through the solution to the spoon and it gets a silver covering over time.

definition - electroplating is the electrolytic process of deposition of superior metal [ni , ag, cr, au] on the surface of an inferior metal [fe, cu]or article.
reasons for electroplating -
1)prevent corrosion or rusting of the base metal.
2)makes the article attractive.
e.g.
ELECTROPLATING WITH NICKEL
electrolyte - NiSO4 solution
electrodes -
anode- nickel metal.
cathode - article
electrolytic dissociation -
NiSO4 ----->Ni2+ + SO42-
H2O---->H+ + OH1-
at cathode = Ni 2+ + 2e- ------> Ni [metal deposited]
at anode= Ni - 2e- -----> Ni 2+
