  • The atomic  number of element is 61 and hence belongs to f block as the last electron enters if the f subshell and hence belong to class of lanthanoids.
  • The element is represented by Pm and has configuration as [Xe]4f^5, 5d^0, 6s^2. It is also known as rare earth element.
  • The only stable oxidation state of promethium is +3, but since it belongs to f block so can show variable oxidation state.
  • Promethium is used for atomic batteries  and in light signals.
