The word ‘emasculation’ has several meanings.

In medieval Europe, emasculation was a form of cruel punishment where the convict or victim is hanged, drawn and quartered.

It also meant, to make a male, less masculine through humiliation or through physical torture.

In scientific terms, removal of anthers of a flower to prevent undesirable pollination of nearby plants is called emasculation. It is mainly used to avoid self-pollination and promote cross-pollination.

Removal of the penis and testicles in human males is also known as emasculation.
