Embryogenesis

  • The embryo of monocot plant has only one cotyledon and that of dicot plant has two cotyledons.

  • The apical end of the axis called plumule it gives rise to shoot system.

  • Basal end is called radicle it give rise to root system.

  • Multicellular structure developed from the zygote is called embryo.

  • Embryo is the most important part of a seed.

  • The lower terminal cell divides and redivides to form embryo proper.

  • Embryo proper form the multicellular embryo.
