Embryogenesis is the process by which the embryo forms and develops. In mammals, the term refers chiefly to early stages of prenatal development, whereas the terms fetus and fetal development describe later stages. Embryogenesis starts with the fertilization of the egg cell by a sperm cell.

The development of the embryo of the plant. When plants flower, pollen will be carried from the stamens to the stigma of the pistil by wind, insects or other animals. The pollen makes a tube through the style of the pistil to the egg cell in the ovary. The apical clump of cells grows and forms a spherical ball.
