I) Empirical Formula — The formula which denotes simple the ratio of the number of atoms of different elements present in the molecule of that compound , is known as empirical formula.
✨For example :- in a molecule of ethane (C2H6) , there are two atoms of carbon and 6 atoms of hydrogen present . thus their simple ratio will be 1:3 Therefore, the empirical formula of ethane will be CH3.
II) Molecular formula :- The formula which expresses the actual number of atoms of element present in a molecule is known as molecular formula .
✨For example :- The molecular formula of water is H2O. molecular formula is either equal to empirical formula or its simple whole number.
✨ The relationship between empirical and molecular formula are :
molecular formula = n * empirical formula
where n is a whole number.
