Empherical Formula:

The empherical formula of a compound is expressed in the simplest whole number ratio of atoms of various el

elements present in 1 molecule of the compound.

If any molecular formula is C2: H6, it's empherical formula will be CH3.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

How to determine empherical formula?

  • Find the % by weight of each element present in 1 molecule of the compound
  • The % weight should be then devided by atmoic weight.
  • This gives the atomic ratio of elements present in compound.
  • Then find the simplest ratio of atoms.
  • If the value of simplest ratio is fractional then find the value to nearest whole number.

Relation between molecular and empherical formula :

Molecular formula = n× Empherical Formula

(n= any natural number)
