Definition:

Empirical formula it is the simplest formula of the compound. This formula contains the simplest whole number ratio of various atoms.

For Example:

The Formula of Glucose (C6H12O6)

The Formula of Acetic Acid (CH3COOH)

The Empirical Formula of both these compounds CH2O

Empirical formula as well as their molecular formula contain same element which has the same percentage composition.

Molecular formula = Empirical Formula x 12

Here n = Molecular Formula Mass or 2 x Vapor Density / Empirical Formula Mass

The Empirical formula of butene is CH2
