In modern-day technology, encoding is a very important component of any kind of data transfer. We need to encode the data from the sender end and transfer the data and then decode it to make it readable.
- In a communication process, often it is impossible to transfer the original data format from the sender to the receiver for many reasons. This is why the data needs to be converted into a sequence of characters like numbers, letters, any special symbols, etc. This process is called Encoding in data communication.
The significance of Encoding in the communication cycle is as follows -
- All communication processes start with the sender. When the sender has data (an audio file or a text file or any kind of data) to transfer, the original copy of the data is almost impossible to send because of storage issues and transmission lag.
- This is why encoding is very necessary to transfer the data. Encoding makes the original copy of the data transferable so that the receiver receives the data and then decodes it to read.
- As a simple practical example, to understand someone's thoughts, he /she needs to encode his/her thoughts into a language so that people can understand them. This is why Encoding is very significant in the communication process.
