The continuous extensions of outer membrane of nucleus into the cytoplasm is called endoplasmic reticulum.

It is of two types: smooth endoplasmic reticulum and rough endoplasmic reticulum.
surface of smooth endoplasmic reticulum is without ribosomes and surface of rough endoplasmic reticulum is with ribosomes.

Rough endoplasmic reticulum helps in the synthesis of proteins due to the presence of ribosomes on it and smooth endoplasmic reticulum is the major site for synthesis of lipids. In animal cells, lipid like steroidal hormones are synthesised in smooth endoplasmic reticulum.

Answer:

inside the cell there exists a membranous network enclosing a fluid-filled lumen which almost fills up the intracellular cavity it is called endoplasmic reticulum

Explanation:

it is two types

1.rough endoplasmic reticulum

2.smooth endoplasmic reticulum

funtion

it forms supporting skeletal framework of the cell

ER provide a Pathway for the distribution of nuclear material from one cell to the other
