What is endoplasmic reticulum? Write its types and explain it .
Answers
there are two types of Endoplasmic reticulum:-
-rough endoplasmic reticulum
-smooth endoplasmic reticulum
**rough endoplasmic reticulum is known as rough because it has particles of ribosomes attached on its surface the which are present in all active cells are sites of protein manufacture then the manufacture proteins are Send to various parts of cell where it is needed
**smooth endoplasmic reticulum helps in manufacture of lipids, fat molecules etc.
● It is a network of membrane bound tubes and sheet connected to the outermembrane of the nucleus.
● ER is absent in red blood cells of mammals.
● It helps in the transportation of materials between various regions of cytoplasm or between the cytoplasm and the nucleus.
●ER also functions as a cytoplasmic framework providing a surface for some of the biological activities of the cell.
✴ ER is of types:-
1. Smooth Endoplasmic reticulum (SER)
2. Rough Endoplasmic reticulum (RER)
● It helps in the manufacture of fat molecules or lipids for the cell functions.
● The process by which lipids and proteins help in building the cell membrane is known as biogeneis.
●Smooth endoplasmic reticulum do not contain ribosomes on its surface therefore they are known as SER.
●It plays an important role in the liver cells of vertebrate in detoxifying many poisons & drugs.
●It contains ribosomes on its therefore it is called rough endoplasmic reticulum.
●The ribosomes attached to the surface of RER helps in the synthesis of proteins.
