movement of water molecues into the cell when it is placed in hypotonic solution is called endosmosis.... movement of water molecules out of the cell when it is placed in hypertonic solution is called exosmosis... when cell is placed in a hypertonic solution water moves out first from cytoplasm and then from vacuole, cell membrane shrinks away from cell wall, it is known as plasmolysis......

The going of fluid into lower concentration through permeable membrane is known as Exosmosis
The shrinkage of protoplasm away from the wall of a living cell
is known as plasmolysis
