The endosperm is a tissue produced inside the seeds of most of the flowering plants following fertilization. It surrounds the embryo and provides nutrition in the form of starch, though it can also contain oils and protein. This can make endosperm a source of nutrition in animal diet.

Endosperm is a post fertilization tissue in angiosperm and it is a triploid tissue .It supplies food in developing eembryo .It is the fusion product of secondary nucleus and one male gamet..In some seeds the endosperm transfer the food into cotyledon such seed are non endospermous tissue.

In Gymnosperm it is pre fertilization tissue and haploid.
