Answer:
- Energy, in physics, the capacity for doing work. ... It may exist in potential, kinetic, thermal, electrical, chemical, nuclear, or other various forms. There are, moreover, heat and work—i.e., energy in the process of transfer from one body to another.
Required answer:-
The word energy is derived from its Greek origin ‘energia’ which means ‘at work’. Thus, energy is linked with doing work and its defined as the capacity to do work. In physics, work is said to be done when a net force acts on a body and the body undergoes displacement.
Any fuel from which energy is derived can be termed as a ‘source of energy’. Thus, energy in any form is derived from a source and is transformed from one form to another. Hence, the total amount of energy remains constant and is said to be conserved. There are several sources of energy available in nature. These sources of energy can be broadly classified into two categories, namely non-renewable and renewable sources of energy. The sources of energy which, once used up, cannot be replenished are termed as non-renewable sources of energy. Coal, petroleum, etc are some of its examples. The sources of energy which can be replenished after usage is termed as renewable source of energy. Wind, water, solar energy are some of its examples.
The characteristics of a good source of energy:
- High ratio of output to input energy: The net output energy should be sufficiently large.
- Easy availability: The source of energy selected should be available over a long period of time and supply energy at a steady rate.
- Risk free: The energy available should be safe and convenient for use.
- Convenient for storage and transportation: A souce of energy should be convenient for storage and transportation like, natural gas is compressed to a liquid state are transported using tankers.
- Economical use: A source of energy should be economical for the consumers who use it.
