It is a measure of disorder of molecules (or) randomness of a system.
- It is a state function and extensive property.
- It is denoted by S.
- Change in entropy ΔS= q(rev)/T
- For any isolated system, ΔS(total) = ΔS(system) + ΔS(surrounding)
- For any spontaneous reaction, ΔS = '+' ve (but not necessary)
∴ ΔS(total) = ΔS(system) + ΔS(surrounding)
