More to know :

  • Epidermis is generally made up of single layred living cells.
  • They constitute mainly parenchymatous cells
  • The cells are arranged in compact form, making a continuous layer.
  • The outer walls of epidermis is thicker
  • The inner walls are comparatively thinner.
  • Sometimes a waxy coating may be present on it.
  • The multiple epidermis is modified into velamen.
  • This velamen can absorb water from atmosphere.
  • In dry condition the cells loose water and help in rolling of leaves, reducing water loss by transpirtation.
