what is epidermis? what is it's role​

Answer:

The epidermis is the outer thinner part of skin . It is formed of stratified epithelium piled up layer after layer. At places , the epidermis becomes thick and hard as on palms, soles& specially on the heels. It is devoid of blood vessels at all places.

The epidermis protects from

a) mechanical damage

b bacterial infection

c)loss of water by evaporation.

d) it also produces new cells to replace the worn out cells of the outermost confined layer

EPIDERMIS:-

The epidermis is single layer of parenchymatous cell which is completely arranged with out any space. It covers the leaves, stems and roots.

ROLE OF EPIDERMIS:-

The epidermis(due to its waxy cutickes)provides a protective barrier against mechanical injury, loss of water,etc.
