→ Its a 6 meter long highly coiled tube which is a part of male reproductive system.

→It is formed by the union of 10-20 vasa efferentia.

→While other end opens in vas deferens which means it carries the sperm from vasa efferentia to vas deferens.

→The epididymis consists of three parts: head, body, and tail.

  1. Epididymis is responsible for the maturation of sperms.
  2. Sperms gain the ability of swimming in epididymis.

=>The word Epididymis means (epi-above, didymos-testicle).

=>In the male reproductive part, each testis opens into a long coiled tubule of 4-6 m length through 12-14 fine tubules called as vasa efferentia.

=>It is a long tubule which is folded and compacted along the base, side and head of the testis.

=>It is fitted like a cap on the upper pole of the testis.

Function :

=>The Epididymis stores the sperms for some days during which the sperms get matured.

=>It provides nourishment to the sperms stored in it till the sperms become motile or capable of moving.
