They form the covering of many internal and external body parts.The term epithilium was introduced by Ruysch.Epithelial tissue consists of variously shaped  cells closely packed in 1 or more layers.They have very less intercellular space.They consist of a basal surface and a free surface.

There are :

SIMPLE EPITHILIUM-1 LAYERED

COMPOUND EPITHILIUM-2 OR MORE LAYERS

Simple epithelium  can be of many types:

Squamous-flat

Cuboidal

Columnar

Ciliated

Pseudociliated

Glandular
