when a force acts on a body it can produce translational motion if the body is free to move organ produces rotational motion if the body is fixed at a particular point on its Axis but it is possible to apply a number of forces that is two or more forces such that:-

1) the resultant of all forces is zero so they do not change the state of rest or motion of the body.

2) the algebraic sum of moments of all forces about the fixed point is zero so they do not change the rotational state of the body then the body is said to be in equilibrium.

thus,
frankly speaking when a number forces acting on a body produce no change in its state of rest or in its state of motion in a linear or rotational motion the body is said to be in equilibrium .

normally equilibrium is of two kinds:-
✒ static equilibrium:
when a body remains in the state of rest under the influence of several forces the body is in static equilibrium.

for example if a body is lying on a table top and is pulled by a particular amount of Force to the left and end by an equal amount of Force to it's right along the same lines the body will not move because an equal amount of forces are being applied on opposite sides of the body does the body remains at rest and this is known as static equilibrium.

✒ dynamic equilibrium:
when a body remains in the same state of motion that is translational and rotational under the influence of the several forces the body is said to be in dynamic equilibrium.

for example when a raindrop reaches the earth surface with a constant velocity the weight of the following drop is balanced by the sum of the buoyant force and the force due to friction or the viscosity of the air so ... does the net force on the Drop is zero so it moves with a constant velocity.

another common example we can give is of an aeroplane which moves that at a constant height when upward lift on it balances its weight downwards.
