Equivalent resistance is the combined resistance of all the individual resistances in a circuit. How you combine the resistances depends on whether the circuit is connected in series or parallel. If R1, R2 and R2 are resistances connected in series, then the equivalent resistance is Req = R1 + R2 + R3. If R1, R2 and R2 are resistances connected in series, then the equivalent resistance is given by (1/Req) = (1/R1) + (1/R2) +(1/R3)
