What is equivalent weight of metal if it has 74.5g of metal chloride and 35.5g of chlorine??

Equivalent weight = (Mass of metal / Mass of chlorine) × 35.5

= ((74.5 - 35.5)/35.5) × 35.5

= 39

= 74.5-35.5
= 39 g

Valency of metal = 1

Eq.wt = Molecular mass/n-factor

As there is only one Cl atom in the molecule

Atomic mass of metal = 39g

Equivalent weight = 39g /1 = 39.
