Esters are sweet smelling substances which are used in preparation of perfumes. They are formed by the reaction of alcohol and carboxylic acid in the presence of sulphuric acid as catalyst. This reaction is known as esterification reaction.
CH3COOH+CH3CH2OH-------------------->CH3COOCH2CH3+H2O
