Ethanoic acid is the second member of the homologous series of Carboxylic Acid. Its common name is Acetic Acid. Its chemical  formula is  CH₃COOH.

The functional group present in this acid is -COOH group.

Solution of 5%-8% of Carboxylic Acid in water is known as Vinegar.

Sodium Hydroxide reacts with Carboxylic Acid to produce a brisk effervescence.

CHEMICAL EQUATION

NaOH+CH₃COOH=> CH₃COONa + H₂O + CO₂
