Ethnicity is a class of people that identify amongst each other due to certain similarities like language, society, country, common ancestry, history or culture. Ethnicity is generally a hereditary status that depends on a society in which a person lives. A common ethnic group may have a shared ancestry, history, language, religion, ritual, dressing style and even physical appearance among many other things. India has a long history of ethnic problems and even violence related to it. For example, in Assam and Punjab, there are widespread ethnic clashes that happen a lot of times. The government of the day does not seem to be bothered about it and does very little to stop the violence.
