- Ethernet is a type of cabling in local area networks. There are many types of ethernet cables such as 10 Base 5, 10 Base 2 and 10 Base-F.
- 10 Base 5 is a type of ethernet cable that makes use of thick coaxial cable and can support segments of up to 500 metres. Therefore, it is also called Thick Ethernet.
- 10 Base 2 makes use of thin coaxial cable and can support segments of up to 200 metres only. So, it is also called Thin Ethernet. 10 Base-F makes use of fibre optic cable and can run up to 2000 metres.
- The notation 10 Base in all these types of ethernet cable means that they provide data rate of up to 10 mbps.
