Eukaryotes are organisms whose cells have a nucleus enclosed within a membrane, unlike prokaryotes, which have no membrane-bound organelles. Eukaryotes belong to the domain Eukaryota or Eukarya. Their name comes from the Greek εὖ and κάρυον.
