Water in the ponds and lakes becomes over nutritious when the organic substances from the agricultural land and factories are thrown into it ... This supports the growth of algae and thus the lakes and ponds become marshy , dry due to sedimentation...This phenomenon is called EUTROPHICATION...

In other words, natural ageing of lakes by nutrient enrichment of it's water is known as Eutrophication...
