The process by which a body of water becomes enriched in dissolved nutrients (such as phosphates) that stimulate the growth of aquatic plant life usually resulting in the depletion of dissolved oxygen is called eutrophication.

Eutrophication is the natural ageing of a lake by the biological enrichment of its water. In a young lake, the water is cold and clear supporting little life. With time, due to introduction of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphotus there is growth of aquatic organisms. Slowely and steadily as the fertility of lake increases, organic remains begin to get deposited on lakes bottom.

Over the centuries, asilt and organic debris pile up, the lake starts growing shallower and warmer with warm water organisms replacing those that thrive in a cold environment.

Marsh plant take root in shallows and begin to fill in the original lake and eventually the lake get convertef into land.

I have made this answer with the help of NCERT Book of class 12. HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL.

Thank you :))
