Answer:

Evaporation happens when a liquid turns into a gas. It can be easily visualized when rain puddles “disappear” on a hot day or when wet clothes dry in the sun.

Evaporation:

  • Evaporation is the process by which a liquid turns into a gas. It is also one of the three main steps in the global water cycle.
  • It  can be easily visualized when rain puddles "disappear" on the hot day or when wet clothes dry in sun.
  • Example: the the liquid water is not actually vanishing - it is evaporating into a gas called water vapor.
  • Substances can exists in the three main states: solid, liquid, gas. Evaporation is just one way a substance, like water , can change between these states.
  • When the liquid reaches low temperature it freezes and become solid-ice. When the solid water is exposed to heat, it will melt and return to liquid.
  • As the liquid water is further heated, it evaporates and become gas- water vapor.
  • These changes between states happens because as the temperature either decreases or increases, the molecules in the substances begin to speed up or slow down.
  • As water vapor rises higher in the atmosphere, it begins to cool back down. When it is cool , the water vapor condenses and returns to the liquid water. These droplets eventually gather to form clouds and precipitation.
  • Evaporation from the oceans is vital to the production of fresh water. Because more than 70% of earth's surface are covered by oceans, they are the main sources of water in the atmosphere.
