The 'event horizon' is the boundary defining the region of space around a black hole from which nothing (not even light) can escape. In other words, the escape velocity for an object within the event horizon exceeds the speed of light. Outside the event horizon, vesc < c and the object is able to escape. .

In astrophysics an event horizon is a boundary beyond which events cannot affect an observer . the term was coined by Wolfgang rindler .in 1784,John Michelle proposed that near compact massive objects , gravity can be strong enough that even light cannot escape.
